Rexy Mainaky will continue working with BAM, says general manager Kenny Goh
Kenny Goh, the general manager of the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM), says that Rexy Mainaky is expected to complete his contract with BAM. He said that the coach has not shown any intention about leaving the national set up of Malaysia.
According to the general manager, Rexy will continue working with BAM as per his contract as he has not discussed anything with the management on this issue.
Strong speculations were around there that Women’s and Mixed Doubles chief coach, Rexy, will leave BAM soon because he is considering the offer of Philippines Badminton Association (PBA) to serve the national squad of Philippines.
Rexy has been serving Malaysia for the last six years as he joined BAM in 2005. In 2006, he set up the pair, Koo Kien Keat and Tan Boon Heong, who have been currently placed at number six in Men’s Doubles world placements.
The Indonesian born Rexy has been serving the national team of Malaysian in a wonderful way as he helped Kien Keat and Boon Heong to win many international tournaments and still have a good chance to perform well at London Olympics.
However, because of a poor performance for the last two years, Rexy, who was the head coach of Men’s Doubles, has been re-designated as the chief coach for the national squads of Mixed Doubles and Women’s Doubles.
Now, it has been almost one month full of rumours that Rexy will quit serving the national squad of Malaysia and will move to Philippines to serve their shuttlers.
However, Kenny said that he has not heard anything like that from Rexy or the management so far.
Kenny said, "I have not heard anything from Rexy on this matter. His contract runs until June, 2013 and he is committed to preparing our players for the London Olympics."
He further added, "Rexy must give two months notice if he wants to quit but there has been no discussion between the management and him regarding this. As far as is BAM is concerned, he will continue until his contract expires next year."
In a bid to prepare shuttlers for London Olympics, Rexy is doing well as Women’s Doubles and Mixed Doubles shuttlers are improving with a steady pace.
