Rexy advises Peng Soon, Liu Ying to stay confident against Taipei pair in Australian Open final
The Mixed Doubles team of Malaysia Chan Peng Soon-Goh Liu Ying escorted the country to the final of Australian Open GP Gold and national coach Rexy Mainaky has advised them to stay confident against Taipei pair Chen Hung Ling-Cheng Wen Hsing at the judgment
day April 8, 2012.
World Number eight duo Peng Soon-Liu Ying had a smooth ride in the semi-finals as their Japanese challengers Shintaro Ikeda-Reiko Shiota could not swing their arms due to sudden injury of Reiko Shiota.
Earlier, the Mixed Doubles experts Peng Soon and Liu Ying dazzled their Chinese rivals He Hanbin-Bao Yixin in quarter-finals of the event and proved their worth.
Coach Rexy Mainaky is satisfied with his shuttlers’ performance and praised their consistency in success run of Australian Open.
He said, “We are happy with their fine performances here. Liu Ying did well against the Chinese (He Hanbin-Bao Yixin) in the quarter-finals and continued to be steady. Peng Soon has also been very consistent.”
Malaysian duo has been struggling throughout this season and came under fire owing to their below par performances in recent past but now they have silenced their critics by landing at podium berth in Australian Open which is going to be their first title
match of 2012.
They will strive hard to revive their bond which has earned them two prestigious Open titles, the Asian Badminton Championships 2010 and the Bitburger Grand Prix Gold 2011 in Germany.
Mixed Doubles couple Peng Soon-Liu Ying is Malaysia’s biggest hope for the medal in London Olympics and they will be looking to boost their confidence level by performing up to their billing in Australian Open final.
The badminton guru Rexy Mainaky believes that only if they stand firm on their feet they will rise against the Taipei pair at the judgment day in Sydney.
Rexy said, “Winning the title would be a timely boost ahead of the Olympic Games in London. A confident play at the net will surely give them the advantage against this attacking Taiwanese pair.”
The title match of Australian Open will be a survival of the fittest as the World Number five Taipei pair Hung Ling-Wen Hsing has 65 percent success rate against the Malaysian duo and they are in prime touch after winning an exhausting three set tussle against
the Japanese couple Kenichi Hayakawa-Misaki Matsutomo in the semi-final of the event.
