Rey Mysterio defeats Drew McIntyre on Friday Night SmackDown, accuses Kane of attacking The Undertaker
SmackDown has turned upside down for the last couple of months as The Undertaker is resting in peace, so to speak. His half-brother, World Heavyweight Champion Kane decimated many wrestling superstars before pointing out that it was the Master of the 619, the number one contender for the World Heavyweight Championship at SummerSlam, ‘The Ultimate Underdog’ Rey Mysterio who took out The Undertaker. Rey Mysterio, who denies the charges, faces criticism from different wrestling circles.
On last Friday Night SmackDown, the ‘Sinister Scotsman’, Drew McIntyre entered the ring and issued an open challenge to Rey Mysterio. Drew said that he wanted to take out the person who dared to attack The Undertaker from behind. Rey Mysterio pledged his innocence but agreed to the match to teach Drew McIntyre a lesson of a lifetime.
It was an important match for Drew McIntyre, as he had the chance to earn some badly needed legitimacy by beating a great wrestler like Rey Mysterio. It was equally important for Rey Mysterio to win the match as he wanted some momentum before he could face the World Heavyweight Champion Kane at SummerSlam. Rey Mysterio initially entered the ring and received a positive response from the crowd as people cheered for him. Rey was followed by the ‘Sinister Scotsman’ Drew McIntyre, who walked the ramp in an arrogant fashion.
The match started as Drew McIntyre tried to attack Rey Mysterio by running into him but Rey’s swiftness deceived the Scotsman. Drew was now angry as he failed to get his hands on the high flying Rey Mysterio, who evaded him every time. The chase ended as Drew knocked down Rey Mysterio after delivering a close line. Drew McIntyre was now clearly dominating the match, as he repeatedly punched Rey Mysterio’s face. But Rey Mysterio then suddenly shifted the momentum of the match as he banged Drew’s head on the second turn buckle. Rey Mysterio then positioned himself for the 619, but Drew rolled out of the ring to avoid the carnage.
Rey Mysterio then delivered an unexpected move outside the ring, as he grabbed Drew’s neck with his legs, rolled him in the air and slammed him on the concrete floor. Rey Mysterio then took Drew inside the ring and went ahead with the bloodbath. Rey used the leverage of the top rope, jumped in the air and landed on Drew McIntyre’s neck. Drew’s dream to face the Ultimate Underdog on an equal level was swiftly turning into a nightmare as Rey was continuously dominating the match. Rey Mysterio then delivered the ultimate blow to Drew McIntyre as he sat on Drew’s shoulders and slammed his back on the ring floor. Drew was down and out and it seemed that he had lost all his energy and ambition.
Rey Mysterio went for the cover and the referee counted to three with both of Drew McIntyre’s shoulders touching the ring floor. But before Rey could celebrate his hard-earned victory, everything turned red as The Big Red Monster Kane entered the arena with an open casket. It was a scary sight to witness, as that casket was meant for Rey Mysterio. Kane vowed that he would bury Rey in that casket on SummerSlam. Rey Mysterio then added more confusion (not to mention severe shock) to an already ambiguous situation when he told the fans that it was actually Kane himself who attacked The Undertaker.
“It wasn’t me who took out The Undertaker. It was you, Kane!”
There was extreme confusion in the ring as both competitors of SummerSlam were blaming each other for the assault on The Undertaker. The battle for the World Heavyweight Championship has gone to a personal level. However, one thing seems to be sure that the true assailant of The Undertaker will be revealed to the wrestling fans really soon.
