Which brand name is better? We are replacing our old 18 year old unit and I don't know what brand it was. Thanks for any advice!

  1. You need to know how the duct work is step up on the roof, yes you can put any A/C on the roof but the major changes could cost by changing brands Over under or side by side if makes a big difference.

  2. I like a rheem or a Trane. i dont have experience with the other two brands.

  3. Brand names have little relevence. All major manufacturers have good equipment and good warranties.

The installing contractor is more of a concern. Was a Manual J load calculation performed to make sure you are getting the right size unit? Your home's needs may have changed since your existing unit was installed. It may not have been the right size to begin with. Don't accept Rule-of-dumb sizing procedures (x tons per x square feet). This is inaccurate and an antiquated process the usually leads to oversizing and poor humidity removal.

Go with the contractor that uses Manual J and you'll have a higher chance of a long lasting unit.

    Good Luck!

  4. Out of those three I like Rheem the best. It'll cost you less than a Carrier or Lennox too.

If price is not an issue get an American Standard unit. They are superior in a great many categories.Good luck.
