Rhys Flint all set to resume riding career in Taunton’s GT Wyatt 70th Birthday Handicap Hurdle
The 2009-10 Conditional Riders' Championship winning jockey, Rhys Flint, returns to action at Taunton, where he will ride Rowlestone Lad in the GT Wyatt 70th Birthday Handicap Hurdle on Sunday, December 30th.
Due to issues with his weight, the rider relinquished his licence in summer. He was last seen in action in June, after which he left the field and started preparing for the future by taking the BHA's training modules.
Having controlled his weight, Flint is all set to make his way back to the track. He is delighted to be back riding, hoping to resume his journey on a high. He said prior to the race:
"When I didn't renew my licence my weight went up to 12st 2lb straight away. I was riding out everyday though and eating a healthy three meals a day and my weight soon settled at 11st 7lb.”
He continued: "I won't be doing any really light weights, but am down to 11st and feel great. I've done a few of the training courses at Newmarket and it's something to fall back on, but I'm only 21 and am so excited to be back riding. I've missed the lads
in the weighing room and I feel like I'm 16 again.”
The young rider started his career in 2007-08 season, when taking a couple of wins. He performed magnificently the following two seasons, respectively bagging 40 and 42 triumphs. He has the potential, and it is interesting to see whether he will be able
to pick up where he left off.
Trained by jockey’s father John Flint, Rowlestone Lad is facing a stiff test in Sunday’s battle. Thus, Flint will have to ride him in an impressive fashion to produce a positive result.
Over a distance of two miles and one furlong, 15 horses will lock horns for a prize of £3,422. Home Run is enjoying the best price, having made giant strides lately.
Rowlestone Lad, on the other hand, needs to raise his game after taking a win in an ordinary seller. Tidal Way, Cruise In Style, Coffee and Josh´s Dreamway are the ones, the 5-year-old needs to stay cautious of.
