Rhythm Of Light justifies her talent in Goldikova Stakes at Santa Anita
Trained by Tom Dascombe, Rhythm Of Light lived up to the high expectations, and faced no difficulty in capturing the $150,000, Goldikova Stakes (Grade 2) on closing day of the fall meet at Santa Anita Park Nov. 4.
The world traveller reached America after bagging the Grade 2 in Turkey. She continued the marvellous work, and put up a fine show in the big meeting for fillies and mares.
In the hands of G. K. Gomez, she started her run as the 12-5 favourite. Her fans had their hearts in the mouth at the start, as she failed to get off to a fine start. As a result, she settled towards rear on the rail.
Despite a not-so-impressive beginning, the 4-year-old did not lose determination. The dashing filly quickly brought things under control, and made smooth progress on outside. She edged left under 1f out, and subsequently quickened impressively to lead in
the final 75 yards.
After getting her head in front, Rhythm Of Light made no mistake whatsoever. She retained her advantage until the finishing line, securing the top place easily by one and a half lengths.
On Santa Anita’s firm one mile, the audience witnessed an exciting battle. A Jealous Woman tried hard to trouble the leader, but failed terribly. Consequently, she could only seize the second position. The third spot came to Vivo Per Lei.
It was Rhythm of Light’s very first start in USA, and she impressed everyone by doing a wonderful job. The connections were delighted over a positive result. After the race, Dascombe said: "I told the jockey she’s going to be slowly away from the American
horses, so don’t ask her after the jump (break). She’s got one run, and he (Gomez) got a nice, clean run at them, and she won well."
The jockey added: "She was absolutely perfect about everything and travelled the last six furlongs exactly the way I wanted her to. She was never too keen or too much off the bridle and raced beautiful the whole time. When I asked her to pick up, she picked
up great and came home nice."
