In a today afternoon game, Salesbury was expecting a convincing victory
but the last ball scripted their ignominious defeat at their home ground.
In the final over of the second innings, Earby needed 15 runs and it was anticipated that they would not be able to chase down. But the struggled hard and meet the target with the help of sterling boundaries.
On the last delivery of the innings, the Earby batsman, Kegg, hit a powerful six over the head of the rival skipper, Jason Rawson, to wrest victory for his side.
Commenting on the sudden change in the game, Rawson says, “We managed to contain them although they hit about 40 runs in five overs at one point. Then it got down to the last ball and they needed six and they have launched it right over my head.”
Batting first, Salesbury set a tough target of 200 for 6 wickets. Will Cook and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Damunu-Hewage-Susantha-Pradeep-c52198 contributed 35, 21 and 62 respectively to combine a competitive total.
Appreciating his side’s batting line-up, Rawson tells, “We got ourselves in to a great position with our score. We were very impressive. Our batting was very strong but we were,disappointed to get out to a full toss.”
The Salesbury players think that this defeat at their home ground is a sour experience for them. One player utters with regret, “It was a great game, a superb spectacle and one of those that are great to win but horrible to lose.”
Despite their defeat, the Salesbury have been rewarded with bonus points for their marvellous performance. They now stand fifth on points table with 17 points.
The Earby are celebrating a hard-earned victory with great pomp. They think that this victory at their rivals’ home ground is a great morale boaster for them and will go a long way to help them achieve more in the tournament.
