Ribot Cup features Irish and British jockeys in Italy - Horse Racing update
The Ribot Cup is set to take place at San Rossore in Pisa this Sunday. The race is a young jockeys’ contest and will feature four of the most brilliant budding riding prospects from both Britain and Ireland, who will all be travelling from their respective
homes to Italy, over the weekend. Twelve riders will be vying for first place.
This Ribot Cup will be the fourth since its inception and is held for trainees, novices and jockeys under the age of twenty-five to take part in. This year’s list of contenders contains the names of three young jockeys, all of who are based in England. Andrea
Atzeni at the age of twenty years, Adam Beschizza at the age of eighteen years, and the nineteen-year-old Louis-Philippe Beuzelin make up the trio. Atzeni claimed victory for herself when he won the competition, which covers three races, last year.
Apart from these three, the 2010 Irish champion apprentice, Ben Casey, who is twenty-one years old, will also participate in the event.
Also involved in the fixture is Pierre-Charles Boudot, a trainee who is eighteen years in age. Boudot managed to get himself the title of the champion apprentice of 2010 under the absolute attention, care and direction of trainer Andre Fabre.
The remaining seven contenders for the race are all native to Italy, of which the leading hope is the 22-year-old Nicola Pinna. Pinna rejected the possibility of a football career and instead opted to chase riding as a profession. This decision seems to
have been the right one after all, since the apprentice jockey finished third in the Italians jockeys’ champion for the last two seasons.
The three races which are a part of the Ribot Cup are the Premio My Tinys Veva, Premio Alex Piombo and Premio Scuola Allievi San Rossore, this year.
The positions of the contestants are decided through the points that each participant manages to earn. Fifteen points are scored by a rider for a win, ten points lead to second place and seven points get the rider third place. Five points lead to fourth
place, three points lead to the fifth position and four points are awarded for a withdrawn horse.
