Ricardo Carvalho: Life at Real Madrid easier than Chelsea
Today, Real Madrid defender Ricardo Carvalho compared life in Spain to the rigours of competing in the English Premier League, claiming that competing in La Liga is far easier than playing with Chelsea.
The Portugal international linked up with his former boss, Jose Mourinho, at Stamford Bridge and Porto, at the Bernebau this summer as Madrid chased the league title that has been in the possession of Barcelona for the last two seasons.
Carvalho has settled in quickly to his new surroundings and has already helped the Spanish giants to two wins and a draw in their unbeaten start to the league campaign.
He told Goal.com today that Chelsea had helped improve him as a player, but that the physical nature of the EPL was difficult to deal with. He said that, “When I went to Chelsea it was much more difficult for me than coming here. I think it’s a lot harder
to play in the Premier League. Players are physically much stronger in England. In that sense it’s harder to play for Chelsea than for Madrid. And playing there is what has really improved me as a player.  I had six very happy years at Chelsea."
Carvalho won three league titles and three FA Cups during his time at Chelsea, but has moved to Madrid in search of a fresh challenge. The 32-year-old added that there was far more pressure that comes with being a Madrid player.
He said that, “The pressure on the players is higher here. For example if you don't play very well the Real fans will quickly start booing you. I guess you just have to learn to accept that. If you don't play well and the crowd starts booing, then you just
have to start running more and try to play better!"
