Ricardo Carvalho signs for Real Madrid

Portuguese international Ricardo Carvalho has linked up with former boss José Mourinho at Inter Milan in a deal claimed by Spanish sources to be worth £6.6million.

A statement published on Chelsea’s official website explained: "Chelsea Football Club can confirm it has agreed terms with Real Madrid for the transfer of Ricardo Carvalho. The transfer is subject to a medical and the player agreeing personal terms. Chelsea would like to thank Riccy for his six years of service, and we wish him well in his future career."

Real Madrid released a statement shortly after stating that Ricardo Carvalho "would be under contract at Real Madrid for the next two seasons," seemingly hinting at the fact that a medical had been completed and personal terms have already been agreed.

The experienced defender is Mourinho’s fifth summer signing after already acquiring the services of wingers Angel Di Maria and Pedro Leon, attacking midfielder Sergio Canales, and German holding midfielder Sami Khedira.

Another centre-back on the move is Rafik Halliche, who will become Mark Hughes’s first signing for Fulham later today. The 23-year-old Benfica centre-back, who played for his country against England at the World Cup, will arrive in a £1.8million deal.

There seems to be good news on the horizon for West Ham fans, as influential midfielder Scott Parker is reportedly close to signing a new four-year deal with the club. If the deal is completed Parker will become the Hammers’ top earner and squash the rumours linking him with a transfer to Tottenham. The east-Londoners are also allegedly interested in Marseille midfielder Benoit Cheyrou, 29, who is the brother of former Liverpool striker Bruno.

Following Craig Bellamy’s outburst yesterday that he may move on if not given an active role within the Manchester City side, Celtic have ruled themselves out of the running for the Welsh international, claiming his wage demands would price them out of the market. Favourites for his signature are currently Tottenham, but Bellamy declared yesterday that a move to his hometown club, Cardiff City, who play in the Championship, would be very attractive.
