Ricardo Gardner, the 32-year-old Bolton Wanderers defender, revealed he had extended his contract with the Trotters, which means he will be staying at the Reebok Stadium for another year. Having moved to the club in 1998, Gardner finished his 12th
campaign with Bolton last season.
The http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Jamaica-c2927 left-back c*m winger revealed he had not been able to perform to the best of his abilities, since he was recovering from a knee injury. The unfortunate injury had kept him sidelined for the better part of last season.
The experienced defender went on to make just five appearances for Bolton Wanderers in all competitions, with four of those coming in the English Premier League. Gardner has recovered and revealed he was looking forward to the upcoming season.
Gardner said in an interview:
“I have been at Bolton almost my entire career and I wanted to stay here longer. I am looking forward to this pre-season because it is a fresh start.”
The former Jamaican international continued:
“I hurt my knee after the season started last year and I had to play catch-up.
I had a bit of a break in the summer and went back to Jamaica for two weeks to give my muscles all the rest that I needed and spend time with my family.
It was important that I prepared myself right because this is a big season for me and I want to make sure I enjoy it.”
According to Gardner the time off has given him enough time to recover and relax, preparing him for another season with Bolton. The Jamaican defender admitted that he wished to end his career with the English Premier League.
In early March, Gardner was sent on a month long loan move to Championship side Preston North End so that he could regain his match fitness. The move worked well for him, with Gardner returning to the Reebok Stadium in April.
