Die Mannschaft dominated proceedings in Amsterdam right from the first whistle, and remained in control of the game for majority of the 90 minutes, and the 21-year-old defender has admitted that his side failed to perform in the opening half.
“We saw that Germany are a team of the highest level and that we are unable to control an entire game at this point. They were the better team in the opening 45 minutes. We bounced back after the break and were a bit more in charge then”, Van Rhijn was quoted
as saying in an exclusive interview to goal.com.
The highly talented young defender went on to admit that his side failed an uphill task against the 2006 World Cup winners, as they enjoyed lion’s share of ball possession. In addition, he was not hesitant to confess that his side failed to perform at their
best.
“Germany dominated possession and we had to chase down the ball rather than dictate play. That wasn't easy. We all know that Germany are a great team and can play some good football. We threatened a few times, but all in all we were not good enough. They
missed a few players and so did we”, Van Rhijn concluded.
