Riccardo Ghedin downs Alexander Peya to reach the final qualifier – Malaysian Open 2012
Ranked 284th in the ATP World Tour Rankings, Riccardo Ghedin, bids farewell to the Austrian native, Alexander Peya, from the Malaysian Open 2012 held at the hard courts of Kuala Lumpur.
The Italian professional summed up his straight sets triumph, 6-2, 6-4, in a total of one hour and 10 minutes.
The 32-year-old Austrian began a sloppy start in the opener and was unable to hold his initials serve. Ghedin took hold of the winning opportunity and snatched the initial two games, without much complexity.
He confidently progressed in the set and busted his rival’s serve in the fifth game and secure a 5-1 lead. Peya was unable to counter the pressure of his rival and did not even once dare to break the serve of his opponent. The Italian tennis professional swiftly
advanced to close the set with a 6-2 score.
The Austrian senior fired four aces onto his rival with 64 percent initial serve accuracy. He attained 12 of 16 first but two of nine second delivery points. The Italian right-hander pocketed 63 percent first
serve, with 10 of 12 first and six of seven second serve points. He also capitalized two of the four break points, whereas his rival majorly lagged behind as he could not attain a single point.
The 26-year-old completely shattered his rival’s confidence and dissolved his first serve. Like before, he stole the initial two games, stamping a 2-love lead. He journeyed to the end without any resistance and
dominated this lead the entire time. Both players manifested a strong defence against one another and held preserved their serves throughout the set. This time around, Peya struggled hard to upset his opponent but his was unable to sustain the pressure and
Ghedin nudged forward to secure his 6-4 win.
The higher-ranked Italian manifested 59 percent initial serve accuracy, with 13 of 17 first and nine of 12 second delivery points. Peya on the other hand attained 63 percent initial serve presentation, converting
14 of 19 first and six of 11 second serve points.
For the next final qualifying round of the ATP Tour 250 event, Ghedin will battle against the Philippines, Treat Conrad Huey.
