Riccardo Maestri pockets Boys 200m freestyle gold – European Junior Swimming Championships
Riccardo Maestri of Italy pocketed gold medal of the Boys 200m freestyle on fifth day of the 2012 European Junior Swimming Championships in Antwerp, Belgium on Sunday, July 8.
Maestri stayed considerably ahead of his opponents throughout the four-lap freestyle discipline and sprinted his way towards the finishing end for the title of the event.
With his invincible efforts, Maestri enjoyed a lead of full body length over his opponents and made his way to the finishing wall for gold medal with the timing of 1 minute and 48.62 seconds.
The gold medallist was chased by Maximilian Oswald of Germany, who remained almost one second apart and secured second position of the discipline by producing a time of 1 minute and 49.55 seconds.
Oswald was chased by Christian Scheruebl of Austria, who remained 0.12 seconds apart and settled on the victory stand as third position holder with an effort of 1 minute and 49.67 seconds.
The bronze medallist was trailed by Andrea Mitchell D’Arrigo of Italy, who remained 0.06 seconds slower from his foregoing finisher and ended his swim in a time of 1 minute and 49.73 seconds for fourth position.
Fifth position of the discipline was secured by Daniel Steen Andersen of Denmark, who suffered a loss of only 0.01 seconds and tapped the wall with an effort of 1 minute and 49.74 seconds.
Andersen remained almost 0.60 seconds faster from his following swimmer, James Guy of Great Britain, who ended his swim in sixth place by clocking a time of 1 minute and 50.37 seconds.
Seventh position of the discipline was secured by Filip Bujoczek of Poland, who stayed almost one second behind and posted a time of 1 minute and 51.29 seconds.
Eighth position of the discipline was secured by Stephen Milne of Great Britain, who remained 0.87 seconds slower from surpassing his preceding swimmer and posted a time of 1 minute and 52.16 seconds.
In addition, Maestri expressed happiness over his victory in the mediocre distance freestyle event and aroused hopes of his supporters by sharing his plans of accomplishing the same at the superior levels of international swimming.
