The former Fiorentina midfielder insists that the Italians do not fear anyone in their quest to lift the Championship, and was optimistic ahead of the semi-finals.
The Azzurri international was the only Italian to miss their spot-kick in the penalty shootout in the quarter-finals of the European tournament. However, despite his disappointment at missing the shot from 12 yards, he stated that the Italians were worthy
winners on the night.
The newly signed AC Milan player went on to state that the game against Germany provides the Italians a unique opportunity for them to enter their names in the history books.
Montolivo was guilty of not performing to his usual standards, but his performance was effective on the night. He went on to comment during his press conference:
“I’m disappointed about the penalty, but we deserved the win. Now we will have to face http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Germany-c2904, we are ready for another battle and to enter the history books.”
The Italian further went on to mention that the Azzurri do not fear anyone ahead of their tie against the Germans, who have had a splendid campaign so far themselves.
Italy, under the coaching of Cesare Prandelli, has played with a new brand of football which has seen them be more enterprising and creative on the ball. This has been touted as a refreshing change from the traditional Italian style of play, which built
their team primarily around defence.
There were many doubters of Prandelli’s men with many suggesting they would not be able to progress from the group stages of Euro 2012. Even though, la Nazionale overcame the Three Lions on penalties, they managed to dominate the proceeding of the match,
with quite a number of shots on goal.
Their inability to see off chances might come to haunt them, however, Montolivo was of the opinion that they are ready for anyone, and commented:
"We've played well in all of our games so far in the tournament," he told reporters. "Now we will face Germany, probably the best team with http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Spain-c3011, but we will be ready to challenge them. We don't fear anybody."
