Rice Owls volleyball team ready to rumble with Houston Baptist – Volleyball news
The Rice Owls volleyball team, which is currently involved in spring training, will take on Houston Baptist today, Thursday, March 22.
The two in-state rivals will come face to face in the evening. The volleyball action will be kicked off at 5p.m. The admission is free and fans are encouraged to come for the support of their favourite teams.
Rice Owls have already played a few spring training matches and the training will be continued until the end of April.
In the next month, girls around head coach Genny Volpe will appear in more practice matches. Rice University will host an all-day volleyball tournament, which will be attended by teams from HBU, Stephen F. Austin University, Houston, Lamar, and Sam Houston.
The tourney is scheduled to take place on Saturday, April 14. The Owls will be tagged as hosts of the event, which will serve as a competitive edge for them.
Furthermore, the team will join the FAST Complex College Invitational which is set to take centre stage at the Reliant Centre. The schedule of the invitational tournament has not been disclosed yet but team Rice is confirmed to take part in the campaign.
The spring training of Rice Owls will be followed by summer training camps in June. That will be final phase of training before the start of regular season. The head coach Volpe has great plans for the regular season. She aims to enter the regular season
with a strong team-line. She provided excellent support to her team in the last season, while Owls achieved an overall win/loss record of 18-13. Under the leadership of Volpe, they tied for second-place in the Conference USA (C-USA) in 2011. This time around,
the team mentor is determined to improve the winning record.
Owls are ready to rumble with the Houston Baptist in today’s match. The current roster of the team features eleven letter winners and 5 starting players from the previous season. Setter Megan Murphy and middle-blocker Nancy Cole have rejoined the team and
they will serve as top weapons for the Owls. Check back for latest news and updates.
