Rice University infielder Anthony Rendon impresses at Houston College Classic – MLB News
Rice University junior infielder Anthony Rendon impressed many Major League Baseball scouts over the weekend during the Houston College Classic.
Rendon expressed his excitement at Minute Maid Park and said, "It's a great experience just to be out here. You always know you'll have a lot of scouts and a lot of fans, especially with big games involving bigger schools."
Most baseball experts and pundits feel that Rendon will go on to become Number one during June’s First-Year Player Draft. He is a tremendous player and his talents are being recognised by some of the biggest teams in MLB.
Speaking at the Press Conference, one MLB scout said, "Rendon, in my opinion, can play and help a Major League team right now. He is a professional hitter with Gold Glove potential."
Rendon was instrumental during the 8-7 win over the University of Kentucky on March 4, 2011 as he went 3-for-5 and managed a double.
Anthony succeeded in receiving the College Baseball Player of the Year Awards in 2010, as he had a hitting average of .394 with an on-base percentage of .530 and a slugging average of .801. Rendon has hit 26 home-runs for the season which is second only
to Lance Berkman in Rice University history.
Although he is a still a relatively young player, most MLB scouts are under the impression that he could easily join any team in the Major League. However, his talents still need some refinement as playing at the college level is not the same as Major League
Baseball, where the money and pressure can be immense for any young player to handle.
Rendon has managed to impress many with his skills and time will tell which team will pick him up for a potential career in the big leagues. Most scouts for the top tier teams are trained in identifying highly talented players that show some sort of spark
that the team follows during the player’s college career.
The Houston College Classic is the perfect venue for the young up and coming players to show off their talents in front of some of the most important and influential scouts for MLB.
