  1. There is no crisis yet in the US.  Barley, pasta, couscous, wheat berries, lentils, just to name a few.

  2. Beans.

  3. mashed potatoes.

  4. noodles.  go to wikipedia and type in pad thai, its like fried rice only with noodles.  it basically became popular because of a rice shortage years ago.

  5. Cous-cous.

Ten times nicer and ten times better for ya.

  6. There isn't a rice crisis.  If you want a more healthful option, though, I'd say try bulgur (cracked wheat that's then steamed) or barley. Pasta is just as nutritionally deficient (yes, cous cous is a pasta) as rice is.  Wheat berries are similarly shaped to rice with a much chewier texture.  Spelt and kamut are similar to wheat berries.  If you want to go really healthful, shred and steam some cauliflower.  Looks kind of like rice, but better for you.

But if you want rice, eat rice.  It's still here.

  7. Rice Crisis!

lol... Must be a slow day in the news where people are claiming the sky is falling.

Rice is eaten as a filler staple... Alternative fillers... pasta, bread, beans.. .potatoes, taro...  The choices are many.

In fact, I've read that wheat prices have gone down so flour and flour products should be less expensive.

  8. I make a lot of dishes with barley instead of rice.

Orzo and cous cous are also good options.

  9. Pasta

  10. whats the matter? I would suggest noodles

  11. orzo (rice shapes pasta) or cous-cous

  12. I'm thinking cous Cous

    there is NO crisis...!!!

Costco and Sam's club MUST have reduced the price of 50lb bags and the entrepreneurs grabbed it up..

    Panic..

and THEY,, Costco and Sam's clubs ,,VIOLATED our computer information..to regulate our purchase power..

I have my income Tax refund and see a May 2+ for a $600

( the BUSH Refund) I can not buy wholesale but Costco and Sam's are retail..

But if the retail price jumps to $4.00 anything around $1.00 would be worth the investment ..

What is the Name of our government agency....

    Consumers Protection Agency

    Big Brother cr_p...

  14. there really isn't a rice crisis.  certainly there are some shortages and the prices are going up, but it's not at crisis point in the US.  there are no limits on retail sales of rice.  the warehouse stores are limiting the bulk bags of rice because restaurants and small businesses are trying to buy as much as they can before the prices really go up.  food costs are going to continue to rise for us all but rice remains a very affordable food item for your regular cooking.

  15. cous cous or bulgar / cracked wheat - just soak in boiling water and they are ready.

  16. quinoa

  17. Mashed Potatoes, Noodles, Pastas, Breads, Rolls & Tortillas. Gave up rice during lent so they were my best alternative substitue depending on the main dish.

  18. ~NOODLES~

  19. I like potatoes as a replacement in most cases there is so much you can do with them.  My favorite way is roasted.

  20. re-fried beans

  21. Noodles
