Okay, I should know this because I'm Korean, but I don't and I am in need of some help. Can anyone please instruct me or post a recipe on how to prepare rice for making California Rolls. I know how to cook it and all with my rice cooker, but I have always tasted a hint of something...it's vinegar or something...in the rice and I'd like to know how to make it. Help anyone?

  1. You're tasting the sushi-su which contains rice vinegar.

  2. Below is the recipe of sushi rice (instead of using a pot, you may prepare the rice with rice cooker)

  3. Well, since sushi is Japanese, I'm not entirely sure why you think you should know this. But to the point, what you're tasting is rice wine vinegar. Here's a fairly simple recipe:

  4. First you have to find Sushi Rice (sold at Whole Foods or Organic grocery stores mostlikely).

To cook the rice, you first have to rinse it repeatedly until the water runs clear (it is cloudy looking at first).

Then put with rice in a pot with equal amount of water as rice. (ex: 1 cup rice, 1 cup water)

Let that boil, and in the meantime take a bowl and mix 2 tbsp of white vinegar, 1 tsp salt and 1 tsp sugar. Mix until it dissolves.

After the rice is boiling, remove the heat and let sit for a while to absorb all the water. When it is finally done, fold in the liquid mixture with a spatula.

It should be sticky but almost smooth and creamy at the same time. SO YUMMY!

I sometimes just make the rice by itself to eat! Add a little soy sauce and it is sooooo goooood!!!!!!
