Rich Franklin: A win over Cung Le will be easy since he is coming from a loss – UFC News
Rich Franklin, the former UFC middleweight champion, remarked that Cung Le, his upcoming opponent, is an unorthodox brawler who throws kicks from different angles adding that it will be a golden chance for him to collect an easy comeback win over Le as he
is coming from a loss.
Cung and Rich will take on each other in UFC 148 which will be televised live on July 7, 2012. The octagon for the pay-per-view will be set up at MGM Grand Garden Arena situated in Las Vegas, Nevada, United States.
The event is being headlined by the epic and much anticipated high profile bout between Anderson Silva and Chael Sonnen whereas the non-title bout between Forrest Griffin and Tito Ortiz will co-headline the Saturday night showdown.
Franklin, 37, is a veteran mixed martial art belligerent who has been in a total 35 bouts. The Cincinnati proud has nailed 28 of his opponents, 10 by submission, a huge 15 by knockout and just three by either split or unanimous decision.
Rich is currently recuperating from a shoulder injury that has forced him to stay out of the octagon since his last February 5, 2011 bout with Forrest Griffin. Rich has nailed many big names in the UFC and is known as a lethal opponent in the promotion’s
middleweight division.
Well known as ‘The Ace’, Rich boasts wins over men such as Chuck Liddell, Wanderlei Silva, Matt Hamill and others. His Saturday night opponent, Cung, stands no chance at all in front of the legendary Rich.
Le, 39, a knockout specialist, has been in a total nine mixed martial art bouts and emerged victorious in seven. Interestingly, he has collected all of his wins by knocking the opponent out cold.
Cung, the former Strikeforce middleweight champion, is coming from a loss to Wanderlei Silva, a fight which was unfortunately his first in UFC. This is the aspect that even Rich mentioned in his interview which will enable him to grab an easy win over Le.
During the media interaction, Rich remarked, “Cung is a different kind of fighter. He’s real unorthodox and throws different kinds of kicks from different angles. It will be a whole different look compared to a traditional kickboxer or boxer.”
The UFC proud Franklin added, “It’s a good return fight for me because he’s coming off a bit of a layoff himself. On top of that he was the Strikeforce Middleweight Champion and he’s someone who brings some credentials to the table. A win here would place
me well back in to the 185-pound mix of things.”
Rich is making a comeback after the lapse of almost 16 months and therefore needs a win in fact a convincing and authoritative one so as to grab the bout-maker Joe Silva’s attention.
