Rich Pyrah takes five wickets in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Durham-c782: Friends Life Twenty20 - Second Innings Recap
Yorkshire would have been delighted to restrict Durham below 150 in a match of the Friends Life Twenty20, at the North Marine Road Ground, Scarborough in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013 on Sunday, July 10, 2011.
The hosts required 145 runs for victory, but they would have conceded more runs if http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Rich-Pyrah-c2311 wouldn’t have bowled brilliantly. The right-arm seamer took five wickets in the match and gave away just 16 runs in his spell.
However, this was just the half job done for Yorkshire, as they had to bat sensibly to chase down the target set by the Durham batsmen.
There were a few nervous moments for the hosts in the match, but they managed to win it eventually by three wickets in 19.3 overs. The highlight of the innings was a solid batting performance by middle-order batsman, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Gary-Ballance-c1465, who top scored with 48
runs.
The playing conditions had improved to a certain extent, as there wasn’t much support for the seamers in the pitch. However, it was still not easy for the batsmen to play their strokes freely, as the ball did do a few tricks off the wicket.
Yorkshire were given a solid start by their openers, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/MJ-Lumb-c1981 Sayers. The pair put together 42 runs for the first wicket, pressurising the opposition.
However, the latter was unable to convert his start into a big one and was sent back to the pavilion after adding 20 runs to the total off 12 deliveries with the help of one four and a couple of sixes.
Gale was stroking the ball nicely and reached 34 runs in just 19 balls, clobbering five beautifully timed fours and one massive six. He was unable to make most of the start he got to his innings and was dismissed in the sixth over of the innings.
Wicketkeeper batsman, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Adam-Lyth-c922, who limped to five runs from 16 balls and the momentum swung towards
Durham.
Ballance batted brilliantly after that and collected 48 runs off just 35 balls with the help of six boundaries. He would have liked to bat until the end and play the winning stroke for his side, but got dismissed in the 19th over of the innings.
However, Pyrah scored an unbeaten 17 runs from seven deliveries, guiding his side to a terrific victory. He earned the player-of-the-match award for his all-round show in the game.
England’s all-rounder, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/PD-Collingwood-c2173, bowled superbly and dismissed two batsmen for 15 runs in his four-over spell. However, his effort went in vain, as the Durham team lost the match.
