Richard Bachman blocks 34 as Dallas Stars get second straight with shutout over New York Rangers 1-0
Richard Bachman was in net for Dallas on Tuesday night and played exceptionally well by blocking all 34 shots on his net, giving the Stars their second straight victory with a shutout of the New York Rangers, 1-0, on December 13, 2011, at the sold-out Madison Square Garden in New York, New York, United States.
Tensions rose after a scoreless opening period as Brandon Prust of New York and Jake Dowell of Dallas exchanged fists, 3:16 into the second 20 minute round and were awarded a five-minute major penalty for fighting.
Both teams equally failed to capitalise on their added man advantages throughout the contest which could have easily lifted either one to victory.
Trevor Daley came up big for the Dallas Stars as both teams were looking to win, making his third of the 2011-2012 National Hockey League (NHL) regular season at the 15:01 mark of the final period, off an assist by Mike Ribeiro and Brenden Morrow, to allow Dallas take their second straight win.
When asked about which points matter for the team, Daley replied that everyone is valuable since it is a one or two difference which could put a team in the playoffs or keep them out, something which happened to the Stars last season.
"They're all huge," Daley said. "Every point matters. It was tough. They didn't give you much out there. We stuck with it. We got a break and buried it. We're not going to score too many goals on that goalie down there. It was a hard battle. We stuck with it and came out on top."
Henrik Lundqvist, the New York Rangers' goalie, faced only 28 shots throughout the contest but fell short on one which resulted in the loss.
"I tried to stay patient," Lundqvist said. "He kind of went side to side a couple of times, and Daley finally threw it between my pads. I probably could've played it differently and made the save. It's frustrating not to come with any points."
Dallas will certainly be looking for their third straight victory when they face the New York Islanders on Thursday, while Rangers will be hoping for a comeback against the St. Louis Blues the same day.
