Richard Funk grabs Men’s 200m breaststroke gold: Day four – Canadian Summer Nationals
Richard Funk of KEYANO grabbed gold medal of the Men’s 200m breaststroke on day four of the 2012 Canadian Summer Nationals at the Edmonton Kinsmen Sport Centre in Edmonton on Sunday, July 22.
Funk met expectations of his fans in the distant breaststroke swim as he outsmarted his opponents over the finishing end for first position.
With his unmatchable performance, Funk spoiled the party of his challengers and tapped the finishing blockade for gold medal with the timing of 2 minutes and 13.90 seconds.
The gold medallist was followed by Andrew Poznikoff of Simon Fraser Aquatics, who stayed two body lengths behind and secured silver medal of the discipline by clocking a time of 2 minutes and 15.82 seconds.
The second position holder was followed by Warren Barnes of UCSC, who remained 0.20 seconds behind and tapped the wall with the timing of 2 minutes and 16.02 seconds for bronze medal.
Barnes was followed by Jason Block of UCSC, who suffered a deficit of 0.57 seconds from his foregoing finisher and settled on the finishing blockade as fourth fastest swimmer by touching the wall with the timing of 2 minutes and 16.59 seconds.
The 22-year-old Block was trailed by Jonathan Naisby of SHER, who stayed nearly three body lengths apart and remained prominent for fifth position of the discipline by producing a time of 2 minutes and 19.17 seconds.
Sixth finest spot of the race was secured by Evan Broderick of VAND, who was half body length behind and made his way to the finishing end by hitting the wall with an effort of 2 minutes and 19.83 seconds.
Broderick was followed by Jeremie Holdom of TSC, who stayed almost one and a half body length slower and settled on the finishing end as seventh position holder with the timing of 2 minutes and 21.34 seconds.
The 20-year-old Holdom was traced by Nick Kostiuk of KEYANO, who stayed 0.18 seconds slower and posted a time of 2 minutes and 21.52 seconds for eighth position.
In addition, Funk was overjoyed with his scintillating form in the 200m event at the medal ceremony of the event.
