Richard Gasquet defeats Igor Kunitsyn 6-1, 6-4, 6-4
World number 13 Richard Gasquet of France dumped world number 66 Igor Kunitsyn of Russia in straight sets 6-1, 6-4, 6-4 in the second round of Wimbledon Championships at the All England Club in London on Wednesday. Gasquet took
an hour and 38 minutes to oust his opponent in a one sided contest.
The French was almost flawless in the first set, dropping only one game and breaking his opponent twice to win the set 6-1. Gasquet served superbly as he bagged 90 percent of the first service points and 88 percent of the second
service points in the opening set.
The 25-year-old needed a single break of serve in the second set to seal it 6-4. Gasquet fired 72 percent of the first deliveries and five aces in the second set. The French bagged 75 percent of the net approach points in the second
set. Gasquet capitalised on the only break point opportunity he received on Kunitsyn’s serve and did not face any break point on his own serve in the second set.
The French broke his opponent in the ninth game of the third set, bagging it 6-4. Gasquet hit thirteen winners and won an amazing 46 percent of the receiving points in the third set.
The right-handed will meet world number 116 Simon Bolelli of France in the third round.
Grigor Dimitrov beats Cedrik-Marcel Stebe 7-5, 7-5, 7-6(5)
Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov, ranked 62nd in the world, prevailed over world number 208 Cedrik-Marcel Stebe of Germany in straight sets 7-5, 7-5, 7-6(5) to reach the second round. The match lasted for two hours and 40 minutes.
Dimitrov broke the German in the eleventh game of the first set, bagging it 7-5. The Bulgarian hit eight winners and grabbed 88 percent of the second service points in the second set. The right-handed delivered 76 percent of the
first serves and sealed 62 percent of the points on them.
Dimitrov made a good start to the second set as he broke Stebe in the third game and held his next service game to go ahead 3-1. The German broke back in the tenth game to level the score at 5-5. Dimitrov broke again immediately
and served out the set in the twelfth game, winning the second set 7-5.
The Bulgarian and Stebe exchanged one break of serve in the third set, taking it to a tie-break. Dimitrov claimed a single mini-break in the tie-break to capture it 7-5. The six feet and two inches tall sealed four of the seven
net approach points in the third set. The Bulgarian committed twelve unforced errors in the third set.
The Paris resident is slated to meet world number 19 Jo-Wilfried Tsonga of France in the second round.
