Richard Gasquet breezes past Tobias Kamke into the second round – Wimbledon Championships 2012
Former world number seven, Richard Gasquet of France, did not face any difficulty in beating Germany’s Tobias Kamke, ranked 84th in the world, in straight sets 6-2, 6-2, 6-2 in the first round of the Wimbledon Championships
at All England Club in London on Monday.
Gasquet and Kamke made a steady start, as they held their serves in the first four games to even out the proceedings at 2-2. The Frenchman raised the level of his game after that, breaking his opponent twice and securing the set
6-2.
The right-hander hit a single ace and did not commit any double fault in the first set. On the other hand, Kamke also smacked one ace but he committed three double faults at the same time. He played flawless tennis at the net,
winning six of the seven points.
The German tried to equalise the score, as he captured opening two games of the following set to attain a 2-0 lead. However, it was all Gasquet show afterwards, as the Frenchman snatched six in a row to close it 6-2.
The 26-year-old had a low first serve percentage of 50 but succeeded in claiming 10 of the 12 points on them. The Frenchman put way the only break threat he came across and availed two of the six chances he created in the second
set.
Gasquet continued with his winning spree, as he won opening four games of the third set to race to a 4-0 lead. Kamke managed to avoid more embarrassment and held his serve in the fifth to reduce the trail to 1-4. However, Gasquet
did not allow the German to stage a comeback, allowing him to win only one more game and finishing it 6-2.
The 6ft 1in tall had a remarkable conversion rate, securing eight of the 10 first and nine of the 11 second delivery points. The Beziers, France resident won both break points he received and did not face any in the decider.
The Frenchman is slated to play Ruben Bemelmans of Belgium in the second round. Bemelmans outperformed Argentina’s Carlos Berlocq in the opener.
