Richard Gasquet eyes a consistent year ahead of assorted form in recent past – Tennis News
Richard Gasquet, a prolific Frenchman, revealed his new season’s plans and resolutions related to his professional tennis career. He is not going to repeat his past tipsy turvy performances and will look to cement his place
amongst the big guns from this sporting world. He has added few more delicate touches to his collection of shots and will definitely utilize these new technical skills at the courts in the upcoming tournaments.
25-year-old was previously one of the top ten performers of the world in his early career days and was thought to be the most prominent figure to surpass some greats but his dismal run this year dropped him to the 19th spot.
He has worked on the flow of his game and will appear as a new ‘improved Gasquet’ that will again bid for the top ten spots in the world in 2012.
Talking about his career start-up and mentioning about the level of rivalry at infant stages of tennis education, he said, “In France there was a lot of pressure, tennis is popular there. So I felt pressure maybe when I was
younger but it's not an excuse." He knows his weak areas and while talking about his dismal run in recent past, he stated, “I need to serve better, I need to get stronger and need to take more confidence into my game. I have a lot of time. I started very young
but I hope the best is coming."
He was in the limelight for some negative reasons, which included his positive dope result that was coupled with a minor suspension from professional tournaments by the International Tennis Federation. This case was closed
by stating that he kissed a girl at a night club that deemed his positive results. It is obviously player’s responsibility to keep a clean sheet as the consequences for a slight misconduct or mistake can be hazardous.
The former world number seven also mentioned about his sub-standard performance against the top guns that pushed him out of top ten. He said, “I had some good matches but then lost against the best; against Murray; against
Djokovic and when I played Nadal, I lost. These are the kind of matches I want to win."
Gasquet was just 17-years-old when he clinched his first Grand Slam title in the mixed doubles category. In 2004, he teamed up with Tatiana Golovin to register his maiden and only Grand Slam title to date. The French man
is eyeing to find back his vintage form in the 2012 ATP (Association of Tennis Professionals) season and surge up the men’s singles rankings with some early title victories.
He had some decent runs last season in Sydney, Zagreb, Dubai, Indian Wells and Rome but failed to have a shot at the championship title in the end. The crafty Frenchman finished in the quarter-final and semi-final stages
of most of the tournaments but tends to crumble under the pressure of big matches. In my opinion, with a bit more focus on the game and raising his technique a bit, Gasquet can surely break into the Top-10 rankings among men in the 2012 ATP season.
