Richard Hannon hopeful of Racing Post Trophy title
The legendary British trainer, Richard Hannon, hopes to end this season with the glorious title of the Racing Post Trophy as his star pupil, Van Der Neer, is expected to make a big impact in the high-stakes Group 1 race that will take place at Doncaster
racecourse on Saturday, October 27.
Hannon claims that the young bay colt will surely come up to his expectations and earn him another great honour by winning.
While speaking to the media, he told, “He is a really nice horse. He couldn't have done it any easier at Leicester, and Richard [Hughes] likes him. We supplemented him on Monday, and he is a definite runner."
The two-year-old rookie runner possesses an amazing track record. He has won all of his two starts so far.
Debuting with the title of British Stallion Studs Supporting British Racing E B F Sprint Maiden Stakes on September 20, he marvellously finished first in the Wymeswold Conditions Stakes on October 16.
Now, the Saeed Manana owned maverick sprinter is keen to add a Group 1 title to his profile. The Racing Post Trophy race will be an ideal opportunity for him to fulfil this dream, however, the challenge is tough enough to cope with.
Van Der Neer is lined-up against some big guns like his stable mate, Havana Gold, and Aidan O’ Brien’s Kingsbarns. Thus, he will need exceptional courage to pave his way towards victory.
It is hoped that the course will remain soft as somewhat dry weather is likely to persist. The clerk, Roderick Duncan, said, “The ground is still soft. No rain is forecast for the rest of the week, and overnight temperatures on Thursday night and Friday
night are expected to be just above freezing.”
Thus, the situation goes to the colt’s favour as he won his last race over a soft surface. This is the reason Hannon looks to be confident enough.
The veteran trainer has accomplished 201 victories off 1252 starts since the beginning of the calendar year. His earning of this season is £2,653,297. Saturday’s victory will add £17,500 more into it along with helping Van Der Neer to complete his hat-trick.
