Richard Hannon persistent that Census has all that it takes for a chance at St Leger
It has already been quite a news that jockey Richard Hughes will be riding Census for the Saturday’s Ladbrokes St Leger in the Doncaster Classic. This decision rooted out from the loyalty and sincerity that he has for his trainer and father in law, Richard
Hannon.
The trainer is now insistent upon the fact that Census should be given an equal chance and opportunity at the Doncaster Classic. The Highclere Thoroughbred Racing owned son of Cacique has been exemplary this year especially when it comes to consistency particularly
this season.
He has stepped up for the Leger with a very strong, power-packed win in the Group 3 CGA Geoffrey Freer Stakes at Newbury in August. This time he is against some quite polished horses, Sea Moon and Blue Bunting.
Surprisingly both Census and Sea Moon won their last races with the same jockey, Richard Hughes who would now be blessing Census yet again by mounting him and racing him trough the track with his expertise.
Hannon, http://www.highclereracing.co.uk/press/latestNews.htmlquoted on Highclere's website, said, "He's a pretty good horse, he's worked his way through the ranks and deserves to take his chance. He's a fine, big horse who works well”.
His timing last time especially at the backend in the last season came handy for the win and he has been improving almost ever since then. Richard Hannon does not consider the ground condition to be an obstacle, goods is fine but even if it gets softer the
horse will manage it.
In an interview Richard Hannon said that he is positive about the progress that the horse is making as he was taken to Salisbury the other day and worked him more than a mile and it went so smoothly that there remained no doubts whatsoever for taking him
to Doncaster.
The concern over Census’s future is quite very deep for Richard Hannon and he has told that in the next season the horse will develop into a Cup horse.
At three, he is good at mile and a six and when he turns four he will be all set for even two and a half mile. At that level there are good races which if he wins, would boost his career.
He expects Census to be the caliber of Assessor in the near future who had won two Yorkshire Cups, a Doncaster Cup, a Prix du Cardan and more.
Some have exhibited reservations upon Richard Hannon and his horse to be associated with the Ladbrokes St Leger as they see it as an unusual occasion but the trainer is head on and confident that his horse will stand at the event.
