Richard Hannon – the 2011 winning trainer of the Lowther Stakes
The three-year-old bay filly, Best Terms, was crowned the victor of the 2011 Group 2 Jaguar Cars Lowther Stakes on 18th August at York over six furlongs. The race seemed to be pretty effortless for the filly while riding in the capable hands of
the stable jockey, Richard Hughes.
The duo won by the margin of two lengths after leaving the tenth stall. They set Fire Lily as the runner-up while the favourite entry, Angels Will Fall, ended seventh in the field of eleven.
The ease with which she sealed the race had to do with her extraordinary pedigree. She is the daughter of the wondrous sprinter, Exceed And Excel, and has got incredible stamina from the dam’s side, Sharp Terms.
Owned by, R. Barnett, the bay filly won for a straight fourth time. The Richard Hannon trained cleared the maiden at the very first opportunity, and has another graded race credited against her name. Before the Lowther Stakes, she won the Group 2 Queen Mary
Stakes on 15th June, 2011 at the Royal Ascot race course over five furlongs.
Within the duration of almost two months the three-year-old bay filly won two graded races.
However, the York win turned out to be the last time that the W. And R. Barnett Ltd bred won a race as four races that followed saw her losing miserably.
2011 was not the first time that the much popular stable of Richard Hannon won the August spectacle at York. The team had dominated the highly influential title four times before too.
In 2008 the stable star, Infamous Angel, brought back the title while in 1992 it was Niche who claimed the prize money of the race, 1990 saw Only Yours landing the race for the connections. The very first time that the trainer was graced with the title was
in 1977 by his trainee, Enstone Spark.
The most successful jockeys when it comes to riding the winner for the Group 2 Stakes are Harry Carr, Ron Hutchinson and Lester Piggott.
If Richard Hannon will be able to impact the 2012 edition of the race or not will be revealed soon.
