Richard Hannon’s Trumpet Major qualifies for the Qipco 2000 Guineas Stakes
Trumpet Major, trained by Richard Hannon, took the competition by storm and managed to secure a fabulous victory in the Novae Bloodstock Insurance Craven Stakes (Group 3) (Colts & Geldings) at Newmarket on 19th April, 2012.
Ryan Moore mounted the three-year-old colt and led him to victory, as the duo finished 5 lengths ahead of Crius, who is also trained by Richard Hannon for owners Titan Assets .
With this victory, the bay colt reserved a spot for himself in the Qipco 2000 Guineas Stakes (204th Running) (British Champions Series), which will take place at Newmarket on 5th May, 2012.
Coral has given him a 6-1 shot, which automatically makes him the third favourite, but Boylesports, Ladbrokes are a little more cautious with their betting.
Richard Hannon junior, the trainer’s son stated that they are pleased with the colt’s performance. He thought that the young runner was going to lose, but Ryan Moore handled him quite well.
The jockey who led him to victory reflected on the horse’s form from last year and stated that "He's twice the horse he was last year, he's really done well over the winter and he's filled out.
"They went a good gallop and the field was sorted out by halfway. He probably hit the front too soon but it was a good performance."
He stated that the son of Arakan, out of Ashford Cross has a bright future as he said: "He'll definitely have a chance in the Guineas but there may be a horse with a bit more foot in there. He might improve as he goes further."
Teamed with jockey Pat Dobbs, Crius delivered a commendable performance, he was followed by Eastern Sun, who finished closely behind him in third.
Eastern Sun, son of Kodiac , out of  Always Friendly, coupled with jockey,  William Buick tried his level best, but still fell 1 ½ lengths short of the second place finish.
Mighty Ambition, trained by Mahmood Al Zarooni for owners Godolphin, raced as a favourite with the odds of 7 to 2, but finished seventh on the day.
