Richard Horne to lead Hull FC against Warrington Wolves – Rugby League news
Richard Horne will lead the Hull FC at the KC Stadium on Friday, September 9, 2011 against the Warrington Wolves who are just a point away to be the Super League titleholders since 1995.
Horne, who was taken on board in 1998, and has continued to boast a successful run since then, will be the sixth captain of Hull, for Friday night’s important clash of Hulls, which if won by them will lead to a tie in play-offs.
The departing coach of Hulls, Richard Agar who recently confirmed his exit from the Hulls FC is all focused on tonight’s big game against the Wolves who are determined to bag a point to confirm their league title.
While speaking about the recent upheaval within the franchise, Agar added, “Richard has taken on a mantle for us over the last three or four weeks. We all know he's struggling a little bit with an ongoing groin problem but the way he's toughed it out and
the commanding performances he's put in under some duress at times have been excellent. He has captained the side before and obviously he's got 300-odd games experience so Richard will be a good man for the job.”
Horne has moved up to assume the skipper’s spot for Hulls after Craig Fitzgibbon sustained a career threatening ankle injury which led to skipper’s unexpected exit from his on-field role. Ex-captain’s absence will be gravely felt in tonight’s big game, which
was further worsened as Sean Long, Danny Tickle, Mark O’Meley and Martin Gleeson will be missing it too.
Further it was mentioned by the outgoing coach, who reckons Fitzgibbon’s unexpected exit a huge blow for the team and added, “I have had the privilege of working with him for two years and he's super competitive and mentally strong. He will be sorely missed
but, despite him not playing, he will still have a big role with us for the rest of this year.”
However, amidst all the upheaval in the build-up of tonight’s game, Hulls’ coach is still stressing upon the focus which has been maintained by the players to keep them from derailing from their prime objectives.
