A renowned Irish jockey, Richard Hughes, popular for his unlimited victories and achievements, was born on the 11th of January, 1973.
Hughes, son of well known, Dessie Hughes, who is a title winner of National Hunt trainer, was born in Dublin.
He usually rides horses in Great Britain, where he has earned the most of his career winnings.
Trainer Richard Hannon, was the main person who provided him with horse riding competitions, he was also his father in law.
On the 19th of March, 1988, the jockey had his first ride and in the same year in August, the jockey bagged his first victory, mounted over Viking Melody.
Later on in 1994 he came to England and continued his career.
The famous jockey is also known for his height, he is one of the tallest jockeys of United Kingdom, and he weighs 5lbs- 53kg, with the height of 5 feet and 10 inches.
Usually he rides for his father in law Richard Hannon, but In 2001 Richard Hughes was appointed as a retained jockey, for Prince Khalid Abdulla, later on in 2007 this connection came to an end, and he continued his association with Richard Hannon.
Richard Hughes has experienced success not only in British but in several other countries, like France, Ireland, India and Italy.
In 2011 the victorious jockey had to face many bad circumstances, after his win in the Fee Group PLC Maiden Stakes, the jockey was prohibited to participate in a race for seven days.
This initiative was taken in the weeklong meeting at Royal Ascot, due to the fact that he has given a crucial performance during the race.
Richard, who was riding Puttingonthestyle, had been whipping his horse with a great frequency throughout the race which made the horse click heels.
While the owner of the stallion Mrs. Dee Bee witnessed this negative act, with shock she fell on the ground.
Hughes was not allowed to race from 5th of July till the 9th of July, the suspension also includes events held on the 11th and 12th July, although he was scheduled for the Newmarket race held in those days but
he didn’t.
Richard Hughes has rode number of champions, who have played a major role in his career winnings, among those horses are Paco Boy who gave a hit in the Lockinge Stakes in 2010.
In the same event which was held next year in 2011, was won by Hughes under Canford Cliffs.
Both stallions were also the winners of the Queen Anne Stakes in 2009 and 2010 with Richard Hughes, respectively.
United Kingdom and France, has always been lucky for Richard Hughes, where he has earned the most winnings in different prestigious events.
One of his major victories was with stallion American Post in French 2,000 Guineas, held in 2004, he experienced a great success in the Darley July Cup British Group 1 success in 2003, and the Group 1 Nunthorpe Stakes, mounted on the same stallion.
Although he has a mark on his career due to the ban, which was recently imposed on him, he is still in an urge to achieve more success and give his best.
