Richard Hughes, the unbeaten riding icon for the 2012 season
One of the most famous stables in the British horse racing is that of trainer, Richard Hannon. One of the key elements for the unprecedented success of the facility is the stable jockey, Richard Hughes. He also is the son-in-law of his employer, Richard
Hannon. His riding expertise are widely accepted, and have often threatened the top prospects of the jockey championship each year.
The retained jockey of Prince Khalid Abdullah sometimes has to compromise due to his natural weight at times when the weight of the horse is not compatible.
Talking of jockeys, one can never ignore the Godolphin’s signature jockey, Frankie Dettori. The Italian jockey is almost the same as the unbeaten ‘Frankel’ when it comes to some of the most successful and world class jockeys. He has ruled some most of influential
tracks throughout the globe for quite long, but the one who managed standing shoulder to shoulder with the genius of his profession was, Richard Hughes.
Last time we heard news about a jockey winning all the races on the card was back in September, 1996 when Frankie Dettori proved unstoppable at the Ascot race course.
Sixteen years down the line, the Irish flat jockey, Richard Hughes, managed attaching the same accomplishment against his name.
“I’m over the moon,” Hughes said. “Windsor is my lucky track, and this is a great day. I wouldn’t have any of this if not for Richard Hannon,” commented the jockey.
Driving home last night, Hughes reflected: “Every day I go racing, my kids say, 'Dad, today you’ll ride six,’ sometimes they say 'I think you’ll have seven winners.’ I always reply that it’s impossible to ride that many in one day. But, this time they got
it right.”
The proud jockey did not forget to count in the contribution of his father-in-law who gave him three winners on the card, Pivotal Movement, East Texas Red and Duke Of Clarence.
The other mounts who won under him were Embankment, Magic Secret, Links Drive Lady and Mama Quilla.
Paul Hanagan was crowned the champion jockey for the last season, and on 2nd November this season, Richard Hughes will carry back the honour to the team.
