Richard Hughes to ride Trumpet Major in the Qipco 2,000 Guineas Stakes
Richard Hughes will be making a comeback in the Qipco 2,000 Guineas Stakes (204th Running) (British Champions Series) which is scheduled to take place on 5th May, 2012.
In order to get back in to shape, the jockey continued his practice runs, he stated to the press that:

"It's just good to be out of the house. I've been riding out as much as possible as I've always thought that's the only way to get the fitness back.
"I'm pleased they've put a few more meetings on the all-weather this week with the abandonments as I just want to ride as much as possible."
This will be the first time back on the track for the jockey, who is returning after a fifty-day ban from riding.

The ban was handed out to him by the Indian racing jurisdiction as the rider was accused of not following the proper riding instructions.
The ban was announced on the basis that Hughes was "not following the trainer's specific instructions and thereby not allowing his mount Jacqueline Smile to run on its merits."
The British Horseracing Authority did not agree on this decision, as it was not in accordance with some aspects of international agreements.
In the event at Newmarket on 5th May, Richard Hughes will be riding the Richard Hannon trained, Trumpet Major.

About the horse’s condition, the jockey stated that he has shown great progression since last year.
Hughes missed his opportunity to ride the three-year-old colt in the Novae Bloodstock Insurance Craven Stakes (Group 3) (Colts & Geldings) at Newmarket on 19th April, 2012.
Instead he was mounted by jockey, Ryan Moore, who led him to a magnificent victory over, Crius, by a wide margin of 5 lengths, as he safely crossed the wire first, without being threatened by the other runners.
Among Richard Hannon’s other horses, Bronterre, Redact and Coupe De Ville, Hughes decided to ride Trumpet Major seeing he has the most potential out of all of them as he has shown remarkable improvement and might be able to perform in a better manner.
