Richard Krajicek believes Andy Murray will bag a Major Title in 2012 – Tennis News
Former Wimbledon champion, Richard Krajicek, is of the view that the British number one, Andy Murray, will finally end his Grand Slam title drought in 2012 ATP (Association of Tennis Professionals) season. The veteran believes that Murray has been in sublime form in the current year and the following season will witness wonders with the Scott’s racquet, probably earning him his first Major title as well.
“I predicted last year he was going to win his first slam this year and that didn't happen, but I'll predict it again - he's going to win his first slam next year," Krajicek said. “I think he's going to win a few Grand Slams and maybe he's going to be a bit like (Ivan) Lendl - take a while to win his first one but when he wins his first one he has a big game.”
The legendary Ivan Lendl lost four Grand Slam finals before he captured his first Major in 1984 at the Roland Garros. Krajicek thinks the same of Murray and thinks that the Briton once he bags his first Grand Slam title, it will ignite a series of Major title victories for the crafty tennis player.
Murray has featured three Grand Slam finals but suffered defeats on every single occurrence and was heavily criticised of getting choked out in big matches. The Scott finished 2011 ATP season with a 56-13 winning record, bagging five championship titles in the year to end at world number four in the South African Airways ATP World Rankings. He made it to the season ending grand finale, the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals in London, as the third seed but had to pull out of the mega event with a groin injury.
The Briton got his first Grand Slam title opportunity in 2008, when he stunned the then world number one, Rafael Nadal of Spain in the semi-finals to meet the Swiss Maestro, Roger Federer, in the final of the US Open. He was dumped in straight sets, 2-6, 5-7, 2-6, by the second seeded Swiss in his first Grand Slam final. Murray made successive appearances in the finals of the Australian Open in 2010 and 2011 seasons, losing to Federer and then to Novak Djokovic, both in straight sets.
Krajicek hopes Murray has matured enough now to take the pressure of the big matches and hopes the coming year will be a successful one for the Briton.
