Richard Krajicek wants British people to respect Andy Murray – Tennis News
Holland’s former Wimbledon winner, Richard Krajicek, has said that British people should not criticise their number one tennis player, Andy Murray; but they should feel lucky and honoured that they have such a talented player like
him.
Krajicek made these remarks ahead of Murray’s tough second round clash with Croatia’s Ivo Karlovic. The Croatian, who has one of the biggest serves in the sport, is famous for making upsets at the biggest level. The Dutch also
stated that the Brit’s name should be taken alongside other members of the ‘Big Four’ i.e. Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer.
Giving an interview to a British newspaper, Krajicek  said, “You should be on your hands and knees in Britain to have such a good player as Andy — that may be an exaggeration but I’m a big fan and seeing that he struggles a bit
with the public means I have empathy with him. He is a great guy, great player and an unbelievable asset for British sport and I do think he can win this title. People are too negative.”
The Dutch added that Murray played amazingly in the first set and a half in his last year’s last-four clash against the then world number one, Rafael Nadal. He said, “The way Andy played against Rafa for the first set and a half
in their Wimbledon semi-final last year was some of the best tennis I’ve ever seen. He hit so many winners.”
Actually, the problem is that British people are desperate to witness a local player winning the title at the All England Club. No player from Great Britain has been able to capture the Wimbledon crown since Fred Perry did it for
the last time in 1936.
Krajicek thinks that if Murray enters into the second week with few close matches, then the 25-year-old would have solid chances of grabbing the Wimbledon title.
The Dutch icon went on to say that British people keep saying that look at the number of French players in the main drawn but they do not know that French people are jealous of Britain’s most talented player, as he is in the top
four of the world and capable of winning a Major. Krajicek believes that the Brit would win three to four Grand Slams in his career.
