Richard Lee continues his great form at the Tsuruya Open – Golf News
Richard Lee from North Harbour carded a three-under par 68 in the opening round of the Tsuruya Open, to tie for the eighth position on the leaderboard.
Lee started his round with a birdie on the very first hole, followed by a bogey on second. Another two birdies against a bogey allowed him to go one-under par through six holes.
On the back nine of the course, he again managed to score two birdies that allowed him to settle for a six-stroke deficit against the leader Shingo Katayama.
Lee is enjoying a stellar form on the Japan Golf Tour, as he managed to record the best finish of his career at the Token Homemate Cup last week. He took the sole 26th place on the leaderboard.
The most unfortunate moment of his performance in the Token Homemate Cup was his meltdown in the final round. He led the first three rounds of the tournament and did not manage to hold on to his nerves on Sunday.
As a result, he ended up registering a three-over par 74 score in the final round, which settled him at a three-under for the tournament.
He looked happy with his overall performance in the tournament. Yet, he said that he should have shown some consistency during the final round, which would have earned him the first victory of his career on the Japan Golf Tour.
While entering the Tsuruya Open, he was confident to repeat the performance that he displayed in the Token Homemate Cup. Until now, he looked right on the track and is still aiming to improve his record on the tour.
Meanwhile, Katayama carded a spectacular nine-under par 62 to take a four-stroke lead over Ryuichi Oda.
“I did more than enough for today,” Katayama said. “I prepared myself in the offseason to play well in the first three events of the season. Things have gone really well. My swing, ball flight and mental state have all come together”.
Katayama carded a total of 10 birdies against a lone bogey to level the course record at the Yamanohara Golf Club in Hyogo Prefecture.
