http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Auckland-c766 on February 19,
2012.
During his whirlwind knock, Levi set a new record of fastest T20 hundred, getting to the mark in just 45 balls, breaking the joint record of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/BB-McCullum-c1129 (New Zealand), of 50 deliveries.
The 24-year-old right-handed batsman from Johannesburg, playing only his second international match, also set the record for most sixes in a T20 International innings, plundering 13 towering sixes. Previously, belligerent Chris Gayle
had the record for most sixes – 10 sixes in his 117 against South Africa, at Johannesburg, in September 2007.
After collecting the prestigious award from the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Alan-Raymond-Isaac-c42771, the South African said that getting the award was humbling and hoped to emulate the award winning performance during the ICC World T20 Championship, to be held
in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758, between September 18 and October 7.
"I don't remember much of the innings but I regularly get reminded of it," said Levi, who was chosen for the award ahead of Sri Lanka's http://www.senore.com/Cricket/BAW-Mendis-c1127, and Chris Gayle of West Indies.
"With T20 cricket it either comes off or it doesn't and for me it came off that day. I am looking forward to playing Sri Lanka when the ICC World Twenty20 gets underway. It's very humbling to get [this award]," he went on to add.
Cricket South Africa congratulated the hard-hitting top-order batsman for his achievement. "It was a phenomenal performance and one that is going to be talked about for years to come," said Jacques Faul, the acting CEO of Cricket South
Africa, adding, "To win the award he had to beat off serious competition."
It is pertinent to mention here that this was the only award the South African cricketers had bagged on the day. Prolific batsman http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Vernon-Philander-c2753 missed out on a couple of top accolades, in favour of
former Sri Lankan skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/KC-Sangakkara-c1779.
