Richard Mille, Talandracas ride into the Queens Cup semi-finals: Polo Recap
It was another fine and chilly day when Richard Mille and Talandracas powered 9-7 and 14-13 victories over La Bamba De Areco and Dubai respectively, in the quarter-finals of the Queens Cup that took place at the Guards Polo Club in England. It was one of
the best games played thus far in the Guards Polo Club which continued despite heavy rains and enthralled the spectators a lot.
In the first quarter-finals, every member from the two sides was at his best and displayed impressive performance during the six chukkas. Prince Jefri, the skipper of the Richard Mille, and Jean-Francois Decaux of La Bamba’s also showed outstanding performances
in the contest.
The two teams started the game quite professionally, but could not make huge margin in the opening period. The first half of play was concluded with Richard Mille holding a single goal lead, 4-3. Pablo MacDonough, the brilliant Argentine polo pro demonstrated
a brilliant show-off and scored all the four goals in the three chukkas. From the other side, Facundo Pieres kept the hopes of La Bamba alive and nailed three goals to remain in the game.
In the second half of play, both the teams started the game quite cautiously and carried out well-organised passes against either side. Despite heavy showers, Alejandro Muzzio showed impressive riding and maintained their short lead in the match. The two
sides exchanged goals in the fourth chukka and increased the suspense of the match.
With brilliant goals from Facundo Pieres and Decaux, La Bamba took the lead after the fifth set of play. The score was 7-6 with one chukka left to play. However, Muzzio and Max Routledge scored two and one goal respectively, and sealed the victory for Richard
Millie at 9-7. With the triumph, they moved into the semi-final round of the Queens Cup.
In the other game, Talandracas edged past Dubai by a single goal and confirmed their berth in the semi-final stage of the mega event. Both the teams opened the game quite offensively and scored five goals in the first seven and half minutes of play. The
first half action was concluded with Talandracas leading at 7-6. Legendary Adolfo Cambiaso scored a couple of goals in the fourth while holding Talandracas scoreless in the period.
However, the two teams locked horns at 10-10 in the last set of play. Cambiaso though scored three goals in the final round, but Sola replied with four notches and made the victory possible for Talandracas at 14-13. They also moved forward in the semi-final
stage of the Queens Cup.
