Richard Pierson collects impressive fourth round knockout win over Charles Hayward – Boxing News
Richard Pierson, the surging American middleweight prospect, collected an impressive fourth round knockout win over fellow countryman Charles Hayward in front of his hometown crowd in an eight-round bout held on April 18, 2012.
The ring for the event was stretched at Robert Treat Hotel situated in Newark, New Jersey, United States and the event was promoted by the duo of Gabe LaConte and Greg Cohen of Greg Cohen Promotions.
The above duo headlined the Wednesday night pay-per-view whereas the non-title six-round bout between John Thompson and Jamond Bourgeois co-headlined the event.
Richard, 31, was entering in his career’s 13th bout and boasted 10 wins with seven of them via knockout. His opponent, Charles, 27, was entering in his career’s 12th bout and was able to nail just seven opponents, three of them via knockout.
As far as the experience is concerned both men were equal. The difference resided in their win ratio and the knockout proficiency. Richard possessed a clear upper hand in both these significant brawling facets.
In addition to the above scenario, Pierson was on a two-bout win streak since his last loss to rookie Don Mouton. Interestingly, after his last loss he has taken on men with more experience and has been able to nail all of them emphatically via technical
knockout including Charles.
Hayward, on the other hand, was coming from two consecutive losses against the highly experienced Omar Sheika and George Armenta. With a lower win ratio, a non-lethal jab and the shock of two consecutive win, Charles was an easy target for Richard and the
latter did prove it by knocking former’s senses out in just the fourth round.
From the very beginning of the bout, Charles was nowhere to be found and he just kept on evading and defending himself from the powerful jabs of Richard. The Philadelphian proud Richard, on the contrary, did not hold himself back and leashed a ruthless wave
of jabs that eventually flattened Hayward on the ring floor in the fourth round.
After the bout the proud winner Richard commented, “I’m feeling like a winner right now. Tonight was the first time Jersey came out to see me fight, and I feel like I finally got a chance to show everybody what I’m trying to do.”
The excited Pierson added, “To see the crowd go crazy like that off the knockout that was something special. Most of the people cheering for me would’ve thought I’d be dead at the age of 31.”
With this win Richard has collected 11 wins and eight of them via knockout. Charles, on the other hand, has received his career’s fifth loss and first ever by knockout.
