Richard Schaefer: Mayweather vs. Pacquiao may happen next year – Boxing News
CEO of Golden Boy Promotions Richard Schaefer spoke about the possibilities of Manny Pacquiao going head to head with Floyd Mayweather Jr. According to him, there are chances of the fight happening in 2013 but not this year. He said that the fight will definitely
happen and both the high-profile pugilist will get a chance to prove their mettle, however it will not happen in 2012.
While talking to Telegraph, Schaefer commented on the status of the fight saying, “It will happen but not this year. Probably when Pacquiao is ready to retire and has run out of other options.”
In other words, Richard hinted on the fact that both the fighters are not very keen on seeing each other in the ring, however they will make it happen since their fans want it the most.
Schaefer also said yesterday that the British-Pakistani boxer Amir Khan might get a chance to fight Floyd Mayweather Jr. if he is able to beat Lamont Peterson in their rematch. Even for Khan, Schaefer said that the fight is nowhere near and it might happen
in 2013.
Mayweather vs. Pacquiao has been one of the most awaited of all times. Since the past two years, negotiations on a bout between two of the most highly rated boxers of our time has been on cards. However, unfortunately, all negotiations have gone down the
drain to date. Lately, Mayweather and Pacquiao were in direct contact with each other to get the fight done, but to no avail. Both the fighters showed their resistance towards facing each other. According to Manny Pacquiao, Floyd Mayweather embarrassed him
by offering an upfront payment while trying to keep the overall pay-per-view revenue. On the other hand, Floyd Mayweather said that he does not see Manny among the best out there and therefore he will only fight him if he gets what he wants and that is the
entire pay-per-view proceedings.
Floyd Mayweather is currently scheduled to face Miguel Cotto on May 5, whereas Manny Pacquiao will be facing Timothy Bradley on June 9. Both of these high-profile matches will take place at the MGM Grand Arena in Las Vegas.
