Richard Schaefer believes Khan can be the number one pound for pound fighter – Boxing News
Following Amir Khan’s TKO victory over American fighter Carlos Molina, many of the Briton’s cronies have developed confidence in him. Richard Schaefer of Golden Boy Promotions believes Khan has everything to reach the top of pound for pound boxing. Schaefer
believes the Briton has already proved himself and now it is one again his time to walk towards success.
“He’s right back now and I can see him going on to become the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world,” said Schaefer to Daily Star. “He is a fantastic fighter and has learnt from his mistakes. He showed plenty of maturity against Molina.”
Not just Schaefer, even Khan’s father Shah Khan believes in the same.
“He can go all the way back to the top. He knows he made mistakes in those two fights and he paid for them dearly. But he is learning all the time under his new trainer Virgil Hunter,” said Shah.
For many Khan fans, the former WBA and IBF champion has made his comeback, demonstrated better boxing skills than ever before. Schaefer has already decided on Khan’s next fight date while his father believes the Briton is still learning.
“Amir listens and learns and that is vital for any boxer. He is so hungry and determined now that he will be a world champion again,” Shah added.
According to Schaefer, Khan’s next fight date is set for April 13 in Los Angeles. Khan is already insisting on a rematch against American unbeaten fighter Danny Garcia, who almost destroyed him earlier this year.
It should be noted here that even Garcia has nodded for the rematch, however their schedules might become an issue if the rematch is to happen.
Many of Khan’s supporters want him to fight a couple of other fighters before moving on to Garcia, as they fear the current WBC and WBA unified titlist might just end Khan once again.
Nevertheless, Khan, who is a fearless fighter, is insisting on taking on the champion next, even though he has promised fellow Brit Kell Brook for a fight at catchweight. Whether Brook or Garcia, Schaefer believes the Briton will pass all tests to become
the number one fighter.
