Richard Schaefer reckons David Haye should rebuild his career in the US – Boxing news
The chief executive of Golden Boy Promotions Richard Schaefer reckons David ‘The Hayemaker’ Haye should postpone his retirement plans as he thinks he should fight to regain his image by appearing in a couple of bouts in the United States.
The 30-year-old brash Londoner, David Haye, recently lost his WBA world heavyweight championship belt in a unification bout for the heavyweight titles against the IBF, WBO, IBO and Ring Magazine world heavyweight champion, Wladimir Klitschko. He won through
a unanimous points’ decision at Hamburg’s Imtech Arena in Germany.
Haye declared many things ahead of the fight but failed to secure a win and hence was criticised a lot by most of the people.
Schaefer also admitted Haye did not put in all of his efforts and was in safety mode for most of the time. However, on the same note he stated he has still has the spark and can rebuild his image by fighting a couple of fights in the United States.
While speaking on his inclusion, he said, “I was disappointed by David’s performance. He didn’t really try to win the right, press the action or go for the knockout. I’ve read that he wants to retire, but if I was him I’d go for a couple of fights in the
US against guys like Chris Arreola or Tomasz Adamek. He should get a couple of wins and then give it another go.”
Schaefer also claimed Haye is still one of the most colourful heavyweight boxers out there.
This was Haye’s only second defeat of his career. Overall, he has won 25 of his 27 fights including 23 by way of a knockout. Therefore, Schaefer believes such a great combatant should not be judged on one fight.
“He still has a future as a heavyweight because he’s still the most colorful guy in the division. Just because he had one disappointing performance, I don’t think it’s fair to judge him on that,” Schaefer remarked.
Let’s see whether The Hayemaker reconsiders his retirement plans or not.
