Richard Schaefer says Amir Khan will become the best pound-for-pound boxer in the world – Boxing
The chief executive officer of Golden Boy Promotions, Richard Schaefer, has no doubts that Amir Khan, who is currently the unified World Boxing Association Super and International Boxing Federation Light Welterweight Champion, very soon will be rated as
the best pound-for-pound boxer in the world.
The Bolton’s ace, Khan, who is more commonly known as King Khan, is currently rated as Britain’s number one pound-for-pound boxer according to rankings by Sporting Life. However, Schaefer reckons there is not much time left now when Khan will rule the pound-for-pound
rankings worldwide. Schaefer claimed the Brit is a very skilled fighter and he has no doubts about it.
Schaefer said, “Watch and see, this you man [talking about Khan] will become pound for pound the best fighter in the world, no question about it. I really have zero questions about that because he has the skills, tremendous power in his punch.”
The 24-year-old, Khan, who has won 26 of his 27 professional fights, with 18 of his wins coming by the way of a knockout, fought Marcos Maidana back in December 2010 at the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada. Though Khan secured a unanimous
points’ victory over Maidana, he took some terrible beating in the 10th round which almost knocked him out. Therefore, Schaefer also thinks Khan has the best chin in the sport and heart of a lion.
“He has the heart of a lion and in the [Marcos] Maidana fight, he showed he might have the best chin in the sport of boxing,” Schaefer added.
Khan is currently set to defend his titles against the Columbian pugilist, Lamont ‘Havoc’ Peterson, on December 10, 2011 at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center, Washington D.C.
This is Khan’s concluding fight at 140-pound division, as he will then move up at 147 pounds division where the likes of the pound-for-pound best Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather operate.
Khan is also keen to set up a clash with the former pound-for-pound king Floyd Mayweather. Let’s see if Khan can really capture the top spot in the world pound-for-pound rankings.
