Richard Schaefer says Floyd Mayweather may face Amir Khan – Boxing news
The chief executive of Golden Boy Promotions Richard Schaefer reckons the five-division world champion Floyd Mayweather is on a collision course for a potential bout against the WBA light-welterweight champion, Amir Khan.
The 34-year-old undefeated American pugilist, Mayweather, who has won all of his 41 bouts including 25 by the way of a knockout, is set to face Victor Ortiz in September 2011 and he may take on the eight-division world champion, Manny Pacquiao afterwards
provided Pacquiao agrees for the drug test.
However, Schaefer believes if Mayweather sets up a clash with the Fighting Pride of Philippines, Pacquiao, he will be on a collision course for Amir ‘King’ Khan.
Schaefer told the media he had a few words with Mayweather and he came to know Mayweather now wants to fight at least twice a year. Schaefer added Mayweather has discovered his love for the sport again.
While speaking on his inclusion, he said, “I spent the last week with Mayweather and he said he wants to fight more than once per year. He's mentioned to me the possibility of fighting in December again. Floyd has rediscovered his love for boxing and is
ready to go. He's hungry again.”
Schaefer revealed the Pretty Boy Mayweather loves British fans as he knows the British market is the second biggest for him after United States.
Though Schaefer admitted that setting up a Kahn-Mayweather fight is not easy, he remarked he will try his level best to do it from the pay-per-view point of view.
“Mayweather absolutely loves the British fans so I wouldn't rule out him fighting here,” he said. “He feels the UK market is the biggest one for him outside the US. We'd have to see if we could do the Khan fight here from a timing and pay-per-view point
of view, but it's a big stretch,” stated Schaefer.
Let’s see whether the 24-year-old Khan gets a bout against Floyd Mayweather, as it is going to be a very promising fight between both combatants.
