Surrey County Cricket Club has named Richard Thompson as its new chairman. The 43-year-old has become the youngest chairman the 18 first-class counties and also the youngest in the history of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Surrey-c851 CCC. Thompson replaces the outgoing
chairman http://www.senore.com/Cricket/David-Stewart-c53235, who has retired after leading the county for more than seven years.
Talking to the club’s website after his confirmation, Mr. Thompson said, "I am honoured to become chairman of Surrey County Cricket Club. David Stewart will be a tough act to follow and Surrey owes him a great deal of thanks for the
contribution he has made in the past seven years as Chairman and further seven as Honorary Treasurer before that”.
He said that Surrey is a unique club and was hopeful for a period of success in the future. “Despite a period without trophies, I am confident that with the players coming through, the foundations are in place for a period of success”,
said Thompson.
He expressed gratitude to the members and supporters of Surrey County Cricket Club for remaining patient and supportive over the last few title-less seasons. He was confident about Surrey’s policy of growing and developing its own
talent wherever possible and said that it will build successes for the club “built on firm foundations with Surrey grown talent at the core”.
The newly appointed Surrey chairman said that the game is going through a period of change. He opined that he will do his absolute best to help the club steer through the challenges it is facing currently and will make it a stronger
club as a result.
The departing chairman David Stewart said that it has really enjoyed steering the Club through such exciting and challenging times during his seven-year tenure as in charge at the Oval. He said that it was a real privilege for him
to be leading the club. He further added that Thompson is the right person to lead the Surrey CCC through the next part in its rich history.
