Manchester City defender, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Micah-Richards-c25259 has gone on to admit that he is honoured to be called up to be a part of the Great Britain Olympic squad.
After failing to make the cut into the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749 squad for the Euro 2012, Richards was believed to have been devastated.
However, with him now being called up to participate in the Olympics, the defender seems to have been given a new purpose. Not only does he feel honoured to be a part of the team, but he has admitted that he is willing to give it his all to prove his worth
in the competition.
Stuart Pearce went on to reveal that Richards would be the third over twenty three player to make the squad, which means that he will be joining up with http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Ryan-Giggs-c31985.
Surprisingly, Pearce decided to pick Richards over http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/David-Beckham-c10432, who everyone assumed was certain to be a part of the team.
The fact that Richards was picked over Beckham, just goes to show how highly Pearce rates the youngster.
When talking about the call up and his plans for the upcoming competition, the City full back is quoted to have said: “I’m delighted to have been included and honoured to have the chance to represent Team GB at the London Olympics.”
“When I got the call from Stuart Pearce, who gave me my debut at Manchester City and has been a massive support throughout my career, I was over the moon. Hopefully we can win gold for the country.”
The Great Britain team is going to kick off their Olympic campaign as they take on http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Uruguay-c3035.
With so many Premier League players making the cut, the GB team is bound to have the advantage of playing on home soil and this could prove to be crucial in the competition.
Nonetheless, despite that fact it is going to be down to Pearce being able to manage the team effectively, as he looks to lead them to Olympic gold.
