Manchester City’s http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Micah-Richards-c25259 has admitted that he is looking forward to the Olympics, while claiming that he is honoured to be a part of the Great Britain squad.
Stuart Pearce went on to surprise everyone, as he opted to name Richards in the Great Britain squad ahead of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/David-Beckham-c10432.
The manager admitted that he wanted to bring in some defensive cover into his squad and felt that Richards was the ideal player to do so.
At the same time, his decision to bring Richards in was made a whole lot easier by the fact that he wasn’t selected to be a part of the England squad for the Euro 2012.
Richards is still a little disappointed with not getting the call for the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749 squad, but he is now looking to prove his worth in the Olympics.
Richards told reporters: "I didn't get picked in the [Euro 2012] team and once I wasn't picked in the squad this chance with GB came around and I wanted to go to the Games.”
"It is always an honour to represent your country. It's not just England, it's GB so it is something new.”
"When Stuart Pearce rang me and asked if I wanted to be involved, I jumped at the chance.”
"It might not ever happen again so it is going to be a fantastic experience and I am really looking forward to it."
The twenty four year old is looking forward to trying to help his side bring home the gold and he feels that with the squad that GB possess, they could just end up doing so.
"We'll have to wait and see [whether we can get a gold], we're confident and I think we've got a good squad.”
The GB squad seems to be one of the better squads on display in the contest. However, with most of the players not having played together in the past, things could get a little challenging for the team.
Nonetheless, Pearce is going to try and take this time before the start of the contest to get the team to come together, as he hopes to try and get their chemistry up to a maximum.
