The Sunderland coach revealed that an offer for the full-back had been accepted, but refused to divulge the club’s name.
Former Manchester United defender http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Kieran-Richardson-c20946 is set to leave the Stadium of Light this summer, after sealing a move to a team that has yet to be named.
According to the media, Fulham are the ones who have agreed to sign the right-back, but no official comments have confirmed this notion.
However, the transfer is well underway and it seems like Martin O’Neill doesn’t require the player’s services on Wearside anymore, allowing him to make the proposed switch.
The Cottagers have been leading the pack for the versatile winger, who has played in a number of positions during his time in the English Premier League.
Martin Jol’s side have lacked attacking prowess from the back in recent years, especially after the departure of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Paul-c29347 Konchesky. Now it seems that the coach has managed to eradicate that problem to a certain extent, after splashing the cash for Richardson,
although Sunderland have not yet confirmed that the player is headed for Craven Cottage.
While speaking to reporters after his side’s win over Morecambe, manager Martin O’Neill revealed that the 27-year-old was ready to the leave the helm, after the Black Cats accepted a bid for him.
“A club has made an offer for him today and we have accepted that. It gives Kieran the opportunity to find out for himself. If it doesn’t materialise and he comes back, I’ll still be pleased, but it’s a position we might have to go and have a look at. Kieran
wanted to pursue this and have a look at this. I will see what comes of it.”
“It is something, if Kieran does go, that we would have to look at,” the veteran tactician was quoted as saying.
Although the defender c*m attacker has a year left on his current deal, Sunderland are keen to recoup some of the money they paid for him and are willing to let him leave right now, rather than keeping him till next summer when he can leave on Bosman transfer.
