Richie McCaw and Dan Carter join Crusaders after injuries heal – Rugby News
Crusaders skipper Richie McCaw and first five-eight Dan Carter are making their come-back into the side after respective injuries.
The pair will participate in their upcoming match of Super Rugby against the Cheetahs, on Sunday. McCaw was sidelined from last week’s contest against the Stormers due to a head injury, whereas Carter had been suffering from a hamstring since March 27.
The Crusaders have welcomed the pair back into the side for the 13th match of the season. The team has been hit hard by injuries in the current season of Super Rugby as ten of their players from the preliminary squad have been limited to the bench.
They have played most matches without their mainstream players like Carter and McCaw.
Crusaders skipper, McCaw has played very few games in this year’s competition due to various injuries. Likewise their conversion specialist, Dan Carter has also been struggling by various injuries. He will replace Mat Berquist at the Number 10 position in
the upcoming clash.
Earlier he was declared fit to play their previous match against the Stormers but later their head coach Todd Blackadder, withdrew from his decision and rested him for another two weeks. The coach suggested that the player was rested so that he will be healthy
for the forthcoming crucial matches.
Talking to the reporters the coach said that their important pair would back up their side against the Cheetahs, in Bloemfontein. He added that, "We have managed all the players carefully this week due to the tough nature of last week's match, but we expect
everyone to be ready for this tough challenge against the Cheetahs. Our new squad members have slotted in well and we know they will do the job for us."
The Crusaders’ coach further told the media that his side will go on the field against the Cheetahs with the following positions.
1. Ben Franks, 2. Corey Flynn, 3. Owen Franks, 4. Luke Romano, 5. Chris Jack, 6. George Whitelock, 7. Richie McCaw (c), 8. Kieran Read, 9. Willi Heinz, 10. Dan Carter, 11. Zac Guildford, 12. Sonny Bill Williams, 13. Ryan Crotty, 14. Robbie Fruean, 15. Tom
